Link Union Station
(Link US)
- Los Angeles, CA
The Link Union Station (Link US) project, formerly known as the Southern California Regional Interconnector Project (SCRIP), will increase rail service capacity and improve regional rail connectivity for Southern California’s largest multi-modal transportation hub, Los Angeles Union Station (LAUS). The project will convert LAUS from a “stub-end” station with tracks for both entry and exiting exclusively to the north, to a “run-through” station with tracks extending over the US-101 freeway providing access from both the north and south ends of the station. This extension can also accommodate future High-Speed Rail service. Additionally, Link US will include a new modified passageway with retail, passenger waiting areas, and other amenities.
As a subconsultant during Preliminary Engineering, V&A, Inc. is responsible for the on-site Civil design of the platform area, Architectural support services related to the new concourse, and future traffic improvements south of the US-101 freeway. The civil design includes preparation of the site base plan and preliminary grading concepts to accommodate fire, pedestrian, baggage handling, and maintenance access. V&A, Inc. is also preparing architectural plans, renderings and design packages for 15%, and 30% design for the modified passageway as well as interim conditions at LAUS. Additional support is being provided for the design of new platforms, future plazas, and planning for transit-oriented development. V&A, Inc. is also conducting an analysis of existing and future passenger circulation and egress, impacts on rail operations, and project constructability simulations.
