Pier B On-Dock Rail Support Facility

The Pier B On-Dock Rail Support Facility Program proposes to reconfigure and expand the existing capacity to support the increased use of on-dock rail located at the Pier B facility located along Pier B Street. The project will minimize the number of trucks trips on local roads from the Port to off-dock rail yards by approximately 750 trips and support moving cargo faster within the Port by allowing the rail workers to assemble longer trains within the on-dock rail.

As a subconsultant, V&A, Inc. provided professional engineering services for traffic engineering design. V&A, Inc was responsible for preparation of traffic control plans for various utility investigation support for the project which expands the existing yard to 38 storage tracks, removal of the existing Shoemaker Bridge ramps and other streets between 9th Street and 12th Street, and the realignment of Pier B Street and Pico Avenue. Coordination with Port of Long Beach was also included for expedited approval.
